REAL ESTATE IN MAURITIUS
In 2002, the government opened the market to foreigners who allow the construction and sale of luxury goods in special locations. A foreigner has the right to purchase real estate only through the IRS Integrated Resort Scheme, RES-Real Estate Scheme and PDS Property Development Scheme. The Mauritian Civil Code is similar to the French Civil Code in all matters concerning real estate.
By acquiring a real estate property (IRS/RES/PDS scheme) equal to or greater than USD 500,000, the purchaser will obtain a three-year residence permit in Mauritius and can apply for a permanent residence permit that would be valid for ten years and renewable.
